SATURDAY APRIL 8—GAINESVILLE TEXAS CIRCLE THE DATE
That’s the date of the annual Medal of Honor Parade sponsored by the city of Gainesville, TX.  It is an opportunity for everyone to honor America’s Finest Heroes. Typically, about 20 Medal of Honor Recipients ride in the parade on Saturday—the highlight of the three day event.

UTA Military Science Department has participated in the parade the last three years with cadre, cadets and Jody Alumni. Again, this year, the Sam Houston Rifles (SHR), SHR (Jody)  Alumni and Color Guard will provide a marching unit, and UTA Military has quickly become a crowd favorite.

So far, about 14 of the Jody Alumni have signed up to march, and we can make room for any other Jodies to participate. To be clear, no one expects a competition ready unit, and practice consists of about 5 minutes prior to stepping off in the parade. We only do a couple of movements and even the guys in their 70’s have no issues with the short parade.
